Dog Grooming Term

Groomer retention

Definition

Keeping the groomers who hold the client relationships, in a trade short of them.

Why It Matters

Clients follow their groomer, so a lead groomer leaving can take the book with them, and in a trade this short of skilled hands they are rarely short of offers. Weigh contracts, pay against the local market, and tenure as heavily as the appointment volume, and ask what share of revenue each groomer produces. One person at half the bookings is the largest single risk in the deal, whatever the customer list says.
