Dog Grooming Term
Commission split
Definition
The share of each groom the groomer keeps, which is most of what leaves the register.
Why It Matters
Splits run from about forty to sixty percent, so two shops with identical revenue can leave the owner with very different money, and a shop that has bought loyalty with a high split has also capped what a new owner can earn. Ask for the split by groomer, whether anyone is on salary, and what the split was two years ago, because raising it is easy and lowering it is how a shop loses a book of clients.
