What We Collect
Which pages get viewed and which site referred you, what gets typed into the site search, and which outbound links get clicked. Alongside that, a random identifier held in your browser, which lets us tell a returning reader from a new one without knowing who either of them is. None of it is tied to a name, and we do not record IP addresses.
A few coarse facts about the visit itself: whether it came from a phone, a tablet, or a desktop; which browser and operating system; which country, state or province, and city; and, if you arrived from a campaign we ran, which one. They are all worked out when the request arrives, and the things they are worked out from are thrown away: the address is never written down, and neither is the full description your browser sends of itself.
Anything you hand over deliberately: your email address when you create an account, and the work you save to it (a pipeline, a shortlist, a checklist). Saving work requires an account, so nothing reaches us that you did not sign in to keep.
If you publish a profile in the Searcher Directory, the fields you fill in there are public by your choice: they appear on the site and nowhere else until you publish, and you can take it back down whenever you like by unchecking the box that put it up, or write to us and we will remove it for good. Nothing about you is listed unless you put it there.
How Long We Keep It
Visit records are not kept indefinitely. Our limit is twelve months, and older rows are cleared during routine maintenance rather than on a fixed date, so treat it as a ceiling and not a countdown. Anything you saved to an account stays until you ask us to remove it, which is your decision rather than a clock.
What We Don't Do
No advertising, no cross-site tracking, and no selling or sharing of what we collect. We set no cookies: the random identifier, and the local copy of work you save while signed in, live in your own browser's storage, which you can clear whenever you like. Write to us and we will remove your account, the work saved to it, and any profile you published. Visit records are a different matter: they carry no name and cannot be traced back to a person, so there is nothing in them to single out and hand back, which is the point of collecting them that way.
