Definition

The share of stays from dogs that have boarded before, which is the whole book's durability.

Why It Matters

Boarding looks transactional and behaves like a subscription when it is working: the same families travel on the same holidays every year, and a facility that keeps them has revenue it does not have to re-win. A high share of first-time stays under flat revenue means the business is replacing customers as fast as it wins them. Ask for stays by returning against new for two years, and read the mix as the retention number the trade rarely computes.
