Medical Transport Term

Ambulette

Definition

A wheelchair-accessible van carrying seated passengers who need no clinical care in transit.

Why It Matters

Ambulette work is licensed and reimbursed separately from ambulance work, usually at a fixed per-trip rate, so the fleet mix decides which schedule the revenue sits on. A seller describing the whole book as medical transport may be blending the two. Price them apart: the ambulette side carries no clinical staffing cost and no clinical license risk, and it also cannot bill the rates that make the ambulance side look profitable.
