Glass and Glazing Term
Hazardous location glazing
Definition
Glass in a door, a shower or a patio slider, which a federal safety rule governs.
Why It Matters
The rule covers storm and combination doors, bathtub and shower enclosures and sliding glass patio doors, and it contains the sentence a buyer has to read: fabricators are considered manufacturers of those products. A shop that builds a shower enclosure is therefore a manufacturer with certification and labeling duties and consumer product liability behind them. Residential shower and tub work is a large, quiet revenue line in this trade, and it carries a tail nobody prices at the table.
