Definition

The type-size notice a body shop owes before fitting an exterior crash part not made by or for the automaker.

Why It Matters

The direct repair program term ends with the words parts terms, and those terms belong to the insurer. What the shop owes the car owner when it fits those parts is the half that definition points at and never names. Ohio requires a notice in ten-point or larger type on the written estimate, saying the estimate is based on aftermarket crash parts and that warranties on them come from the part maker. Each non-original part is identified on the estimate and the customer signs at the foot. A violation is an unfair and deceptive act under the state's consumer law. Pull thirty closed estimates and look for the paragraph and the signature, because a shop that has neither carries that exposure on every non-original job it wrote.
