Why It Matters

No state read here requires vaccination as a condition of admission, which makes the intake policy the facility's own and not a rule to inherit. What is required is a disclosure, and it is not free to write. Virginia makes a boarding establishment give the consumer a written notice before the animal is delivered, in prescribed words in ten-point boldfaced type, and post the same words on a sign at the intake area. What it discloses is who pays: the consumer bears the reasonable and necessary cost of emergency veterinary treatment for illness or injury in custody, the establishment bears it where the injury came from its own failure or actions, and neither bears it for self-mutilation. Missing the notice is a misdemeanor and a prohibited practice under the state's consumer protection act. Ask for a signed one from a recent stay.
