Why It Matters

Parts matrix says half the gross profit sits in the markup schedule. The old unit that goes back on the shelf as a core credit is parts income that never appears as a sale, and the shop keeps it only because of a sentence said before the job started. The two defaults run opposite. Ohio makes it a deceptive act to fail to tender replaced parts unless the shop disclosed before starting that it would rebuild, resell or return them. California makes the customer ask when the work order is taken. So ask for the intake form: in an Ohio-rule state a work order with no retention sentence has been wrong on every alternator sent back for credit. Then ask for twelve months of core credit memos, because that figure is the size of the practice.
