Warranty chargeback

Definition

A refused or clawed-back payment for warranty work the shop has already finished.

Why It Matters

Warranty dispatch is the volume and this is the risk attached to it, and most of the rule is private. California is the exception. It makes every manufacturer whose warranted goods are sold there liable to the outside shop doing its warranty work for actual and reasonable cost plus a reasonable profit, presumed equal to that shop's retail rate. Any waiver is void, and a written service contract can set lower rates but runs a year at most. No such statute was found for home-warranty administrators, and state service-contract law names the contract holder, never the servicer. Louisiana gives a supplier thirty days to approve or deny a farm, industrial, or lawn and garden equipment dealer's warranty claim, deems it approved after that, and lets the supplier adjust claims paid in error on audit. So the servicer agreements are the diligence item, because the chargeback window, the audit reach and the labor rate live there.
