Swim School Term
Pool operating permit
Definition
The annual permit on the water itself, and one of the few permissions that transfers.
Why It Matters
Operating a public pool without a valid permit is unlawful, and the permit is renewed annually and posted where swimmers can see it. What makes it worth its own entry is the transfer rule, because almost nothing else in this campaign of trades moves with the business: Florida states that operating permits may be transferred from one name or owner to another, with the new owner filing within thirty days of the change. The other half of a swim school's paperwork is less settled. No health studio statute in the states read names swimming among the activities it covers, so whether lesson packages carry a statutory cancellation right is genuinely unsettled.
