Truck day

Definition

One truck and crew working one day, which is the unit a route's capacity is built from.

Why It Matters

Revenue per truck day is the number that tells you whether growth needs another truck or better scheduling, and it is the one most owners cannot produce. A business at capacity on its trucks is a business whose growth costs a hundred thousand dollars of equipment plus a crew; one running half full is a business that grows on dispatch discipline. The two price very differently and look identical on a revenue line.
