Hardware Store Term

Sales per customer

Definition

The average ticket, which this trade tracks as its core productivity number.

Why It Matters

It is the number the trade watches because footfall in a hardware store is largely fixed by the neighborhood, so growth comes from what each visit is worth. The 2025 study put it at thirty-nine dollars, an all-time high, at the same time that profit before taxes fell for a third year. Read those two together before believing a growth story: a store whose ticket is rising and whose bottom line is falling has a cost problem, and buying it means buying the cost problem.
