Definition

The same-day report owed when one unlicensed buyer takes two handguns in five business days.

Why It Matters

The trigger is narrower and the deadline tighter than the trade remembers. It fires where a licensee sells or otherwise disposes of, at one time or during any five consecutive BUSINESS days, two or more pistols or revolvers or any combination totalling two or more, to an unlicensed person. The rule's own worked example makes the point: in a shop trading Monday to Saturday, a revolver sold on Monday and another to the same person the following Saturday is not a multiple sale, because those days are not five consecutive business days. Two copies go to the agency and one to the state or local police not later than the close of business on the day the disposition occurs, with a copy kept against the transaction record. Same-day is the part that fails at a busy counter. Read the reporting log against the book for the period the last inspection covered.
