Why It Matters

If the selling owner holds it, the license outlives their exit only briefly: California keeps it in force ninety days after timely notice and Washington gives sixty days to name a substitute, each extendable by the regulator. Becoming one yourself depends on the state, since California and Washington offer an examination route while Florida asks two years of security experience. Hiring is the usual answer, and a hire your license depends on is a retention problem for as long as you own the business.
