The federal school bus credential, and the training a driver must finish before testing for it.

Why It Matters

A school bus driver needs a commercial license with both a passenger and a school bus endorsement, and since February 2022 the skills test for either is gated behind training from a provider on the federal registry. Many states add their own certificate on top, with a fingerprint check. So a driver is not hired in a week, and the spare-driver ratio a buyer can realistically underwrite is set by that pipeline instead of by the payroll budget.
