Plumbing Term

Master plumber license

Definition

The top-tier plumbing license a company needs on staff to pull permits and sign off on work.

Why It Matters

It is often the scarcest asset in the deal. If the master is the retiring owner, the business cannot operate without a replacement, which makes lining one up a closing condition rather than an afterthought. Start early: qualified masters are scarce in most markets, they are already employed, and the ones willing to move know what that is worth. Ask whether anyone else on staff is close to qualifying, since that is the cheapest answer.
