Why It Matters

Automotive key programming needs the manufacturer's data and this is what opens it. The Vehicle Security Professional registry is run by an industry task force under a secure data release model, and Massachusetts law points at that model by name for the immobilizer information a manufacturer is allowed to withhold from independent shops. Registration is issued to a PERSON, and only to an owner or a W-2 employee, never a 1099 subcontractor. The vetting is documentary: a driver's license, proof of employment or ownership, a business standing document dated within twelve months, a certificate of insurance the agent sends directly, and a background check the task force runs itself. The insurance floor is a million dollars aggregate with five hundred thousand per event, plus a hundred thousand dollar employee dishonesty bond once the business has subordinate users. None of it conveys with the business, so an automotive key line resting on the departing owner's registration walks out on the last day.
