Hair Salon Term

Walkout risk

Definition

The share of clientele that leaves with a departing stylist rather than staying.

Why It Matters

Salon value is the client book, and the book walks on two legs. The questions that price it: do clients belong to the shop's system or to a stylist's phone, how tenured is the core staff, and do enforceable non-solicits exist where state law allows them. A salon with three-year-plus stylists, shop-owned booking and records, and diversified service revenue holds its book through a sale; one star chair with a personal following is a business that can resign.
