Hair Salon Term
Salon license transfer
Definition
The salon's own license, which can move to a new address but never to a new owner.
Why It Matters
The direction surprises buyers who assume a license attaches to the building. Florida says in as many words that no salon license may be transferred from the original licensee to another, and that it moves from one location to another only with the department's approval. So the seller's license leaves with the seller while the lease and the buildout stay, and the buyer applies from scratch on a clock the state sets. The owner does not have to hold a cosmetologist license personally, but every person performing services in the shop does, so ask for the roster with each license number and expiration date.
