Finish Carpentry Term

Shop versus jobsite standard

Definition

Which safety rulebook governs, since a millwork shop and its own installs are not the same.

Why It Matters

Federal rules apply the construction standards to construction work, which means the crews out on installs are under one rulebook and the fixed shop behind them is general industry under another, with its own machine guarding duties for woodworking equipment. One company, two standards, and it surprises buyers who assume otherwise. It decides which citation history is relevant and which guarding obligations the shop being acquired is actually under.
