Bed and Breakfast Term

Direct booking share

Definition

The portion of reservations arriving through the inn's own site and phone.

Why It Matters

Online travel agencies fill rooms and take a heavy commission for it, so the direct share is the margin lever an innkeeper controls: repeat guests, an email list, and a site worth booking on. Read the channel mix across the year, because a high-occupancy inn earning through commissioned channels nets meaningfully less than the same calendar booked direct, and shifting the mix is slow, real work that the seller's goodwill may or may not transfer.
