Acquisition Lab vs SMBootcamp
Side by Side
| Attribute | Acquisition Lab | SMBootcamp |
|---|---|---|
| What It Is | A paid, application-vetted membership program for business buyers founded by "Buy Then Build" author Walker Deibel, combining a structured onboarding curriculum, daily advisor office hours, live deal reviews, 80+ templates, 500+ broker mailing lists, and a private Slack community. Since a March 2026 "Acquisition Lab 2.0" rebrand it also houses a capital arm (dedicated fund plus an EIR program with $500k–$1M pre-committed capital) and separate paid post-close operations services. | Acquisition-entrepreneurship training taught by operators and dealmakers who have closed over $500M in SMB deals, from a self-paced DIY course with templates and models to a cohort-based three-day in-person bootcamp. |

| Pricing Model | One-Time | Custom Pricing |
| What It Costs | $12,500 USD one-time for lifetime access (vendor pricing page, July 2026), stated inclusions: a year of IBISWorld Premium, 500+ broker lists, complimentary LLC formation, 80+ tools and templates, daily advisor access. No discounts or financing ("We don't have flexibility on pricing"; fee may be lender-reimbursable at closing); 30-day money-back window, non-refundable after. | A self-paced DIY Essentials course (video lessons, M&A templates, and financial-model walkthroughs on its Skool platform) and a cohort-based three-day in-person LIVE bootcamp; program pricing is quoted on its site. The blog and newsletter are free. |
| Best For | Well-capitalized, committed self-funded searchers targeting SBA-sized deals (the Lab's average member acquisition is $2.4M with $678k earnings, squarely the $500k–$5M range) who will actually use daily advisor office hours and live deal reviews and can commit 7–10 hours/week. Not for budget-constrained or exploratory buyers, who should read Buy Then Build and use free communities first. | First-time buyers who want a tactical, do-the-work curriculum on finding, financing, and closing a small business |
| Where It Fits | Decide & Choose Your Path, Set Up & Fund the Search, Define & Test Your Thesis, Source & Screen Deals, Diligence & Close the Deal | Decide & Choose Your Path, Source & Screen Deals |
| Our Verdict | The most credible brand-name accelerator for committed self-funded SBA searchers; the daily advisor access and live deal reviews are what you're really buying. At $12,500 one-time with no financing, self-directed learners should start with the $20 book and free communities and join only if they want paid accountability and deal feedback. | A practical, operator-taught option for first-time buyers who learn by doing; weigh the live cohort against the free education first. |

Our take
Choose Acquisition Lab if the value you want is access: daily advisor hours, live deal reviews, and a vetted cohort at a published one-time price, on the understanding that much of the curriculum itself overlaps with books and podcasts you can read for nothing.
Choose SMBootcamp if you want the taught version, a do-the-work course with templates and models plus an in-person cohort, and you accept that its alumni record is shorter than the longest-running programs and that tier pricing comes by asking.
