Drywall Term

Stocking and distribution

Definition

Getting board into the building before the crew arrives, usually by a specialist.

Why It Matters

Board is heavy, awkward, and delivered to the floor it will be hung on, which is a service the supplier or a stocking subcontractor performs and charges for. It sits between the material price and the labor rate and it is the line most often left out of a fast estimate, so a bidder who forgets it on a high-rise gives away the margin before a sheet is hung. Ask how stocking is priced on the current jobs and whether the company owns the equipment to do it, because a contractor who can stock its own work bids differently from one who cannot.
