Courier and Delivery Term
Small freight vehicle floor
Definition
The lower filing a fleet qualifies for while every vehicle stays under the weight line.
Why It Matters
The federal minimum that trucking runs on does not reach a vehicle rated under 10,001 pounds, which is most of this trade. What applies instead is the registration-side filing, and it is $300,000 for a fleet containing ONLY vehicles under that weight against $750,000 once the fleet is mixed. One heavier box van therefore reprices the filing for every vehicle in the business, so read the weight ratings down the fleet list before counting vehicles. California draws its intrastate line at the same $300,000 but writes its threshold as under 10,000 pounds against the federal 10,001, so a van sitting exactly on the line answers differently to each rule.
