Motor carrier permit

Definition

A state permit to haul property for hire, which the customer is also barred from ignoring.

Why It Matters

In California the rule reaches both sides: a carrier may not operate without one, and no person may engage the services of a carrier that does not hold one. So a lapsed permit does not merely expose the operator, it makes every account technically unable to keep using them. That is a closing condition and not a compliance footnote, and it is worth confirming the permit is current and in the name of whatever entity actually takes the customers.
