Profit as a share of revenue, after all operating costs; for owner-operated businesses the useful variant is SDE over revenue, since the owner's pay sits inside the profit.

Whether a listing's margin is even plausible for its trade is checkable against tax-data aggregates before any diligence spend, and a claim far above the industry's profitable-only figure is a claim about add-backs.
