The Firm
Summit Fire & Security is a subsidiary of SFP Holding, Inc., which trades as Summit Companies and is run from Mendota Heights, Minnesota. By its own account the business traces to 1999 and now operates as a holding company whose subsidiaries, among them Summit Fire Protection, Summit Fire & Security, Summit Fire National Accounts, and Summit Fire Consulting, deliver design, installation, inspection, maintenance, monitoring, and consulting from locations across 37 states.
The growth is acquisition, dated one release at a time in its own newsroom. The first half of 2026 alone carries IFS Fire & Safety in Corpus Christi, a 35-year-old family firm doing extinguishers, kitchen suppression, hydrostatic testing, and marine work; Commercial Fire Protection and Commercial Alarm & Detection in Mount Vernon, Washington, taken in through its Performance Systems Integration arm; and three New England companies at once out of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The pattern is a family-owned inspection-and-testing book folded into the nearest regional branch.
The platform is itself a traded asset, which is the part a searcher should hold onto. Its own announcement of August 2025 records the sale of a majority stake to BDT & MSD Partners, with founder Quint Rubald and CEO Jeff Evrard staying on as shareholders; the same page notes an earlier stretch under BlackRock Long Term Private Capital. A shop sold into Summit is being sold into a company that is being sold.
For a fire-protection searcher this changes the read of the trade. Pye-Barker is not the only national bidder, and in the Pacific Northwest, New England, and the Gulf Coast Summit is the one showing up. The counter is the same either way: what both are buying is a dense book of recurring inspection contracts, and a buyer who can hold and grow that book is competing for the same asset rather than against the acquirer's balance sheet.
