The Firm
Founded on 1 May 2011 by the president of a Mississippi home center and the president of an advisory firm, with the president of a Louisiana lumber company joining the board as a partner that November. Its own history page says the vision was to bring operators together for supply chain and administrative scale while leaving the businesses to run somewhat differently, and it now operates about 143 stores under seventeen brands across sixteen states.
THE SENTENCE A SEARCHER SHOULD READ TWICE IS ON ITS HISTORY PAGE: it says it often helps companies facing succession planning or a generational transfer of ownership. That is the same deal a searcher is looking for, described from the other side of the table, and it is unusual for a buyer to name the situation it hunts quite so plainly.
It is also the best-documented buying side on this shelf. Its news page is a dated log of purchases going back to the year it was founded, one line each, on its own domain: fourteen stores in the upper Midwest in one deal, a Pacific Northwest family chain in another, single stores in Minnesota and Mississippi. A seller can therefore read the whole pattern before a first call, which almost no buyer here allows.
One thing the log will not tell you. Trade coverage of its newest purchase names a national hardware distributor as its parent, and the firm's own pages never mention that relationship anywhere. A buyer whose ownership has changed is a buyer whose appetite may be set somewhere else, so ask whose capital is behind the offer.
