Insurance Agency Term

Retention rate

The share of policies or premium an agency keeps at renewal each year, the inverse of client churn in a business built almost entirely on renewals.

Retention is the multiple in insurance: a book renewing in the low 90s compounds and finances cleanly, while one in the 80s is quietly leaking, and closing that gap is worth more than a point of new-business growth.
