Funeral Home Term
Unannounced board inspection
Definition
The state board's right to inspect the buildings, grounds and vehicles at any time.
Why It Matters
The license is held by the establishment, and in most states the board may walk in without notice and look at the preparation room, the vehicles and the files, the prepaid contracts among them. Florida puts it plainly: every licensed establishment is subject at all times to inspection of all its buildings, grounds and vehicles, and pays an annual inspection fee for the privilege. So the condition of the building is a licensing question and not a maintenance one, and the last inspection report is a document to ask for before the price is agreed.
