Thoma Bravo

Who They Are

The top of the software buyout market, and a buyer that asks the operator to roll equity and stay on to run the next leg rather than hand over the keys.

Thoma Bravo publishes an at-a-glance block on its own homepage: roughly a hundred and seventy billion dollars of assets under management, around eighty current portfolio companies, some six hundred transactions and an aggregate enterprise value near three hundred and twenty-five billion, all footnoted to a stated date and to a definition that includes control and non-control investments as well as add-ons. It describes a partnership whose managing partners have worked together for more than twenty years.

In the release that matters here it names its own adjacent holdings in risk, compliance, safety and supply-chain software, which is how a searcher should read any approach from a firm this size: it already owns the neighbours and is pricing what you add to them. The same release says the management team and founders retained a minority stake, so the conversation to prepare for is about rolling equity and running the next leg rather than about an exit.

Search-Fund Companies They Bought

  • PEC Safety · 2018

Colby Lane bought PEC Safety through a search fund backed by Anacapa and Pacific Lake and took a Louisiana contractor-management business national. No primary source states the year he bought it; his backers publish only their own investment dates. Thoma Bravo acquired it in November 2018, describing a rapidly growing contractor management software and safety learning business and quoting Lane as chief executive. [1][2]
