JMI Equity
Who They Are
Growth equity for software companies, and the buyer in one of the search world's best-documented exits: it took a school-safety platform off a searcher who had run it for six years.
JMI Equity is a growth equity firm founded in 1992, investing from San Diego, Washington, DC, and Baltimore. By its own account it has raised over $11 billion of committed capital, completed nearly 200 investments with about 120 exits, and writes $20 million to $500 million into software and AI-driven companies with proven business models, rich intellectual property, and high recurring revenue.
For a searcher who buys and builds software, JMI is what the far end of the road can look like: its purchase of Raptor Technologies, a search-fund success in school-safety software, is the record on this page. A conversation with a growth firm like it runs on the metrics its own pages name: recurring revenue quality, retention, and a management team it can back for the next leg. That is a different meeting from a lender's, and worth preparing for as one.
