# Therapeutic pharmaceutical agent authority

A term used when buying optometry practice.

The state grant of prescribing scope that any federal registration can only follow, never precede.

Federal law defines an individual practitioner as someone licensed, registered, or otherwise permitted by the jurisdiction where they practice to dispense a controlled substance in the course of professional practice. Optometry is where that clause does real work, because the scope is written state by state and one profession answers differently across a state line. Ohio puts the employing, applying, administering, and prescribing of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents inside the practice of optometry itself, naming oral anti-infective, anti-allergy, antiglaucoma, analgesic and anti-inflammatory classes, along with injected epinephrine for anaphylaxis. The authority is personal to the licensee, so it neither conveys with the equipment nor reaches an associate who has not earned it. Ask which doctors on the schedule hold it, and what the practice stops doing on the day the seller leaves.
