# Line card

A term used when buying electrical supply house.

The set of manufacturer lines a supply house is authorized to stock and to sell.

It is the closest thing to an asset in the deal and it is not owned. The card decides what the house can put on a shelf, what it pays for it, and whether a contractor with a job to buy for calls this number or the one down the road. Manufacturers grant those authorizations to a person and a territory as much as to a company, and a change of ownership is the natural moment to review one. Ask for every agreement in writing, ask when each was last renewed, and ask the manufacturer and not the seller whether it travels.
