# Wood movement quarantine

A term used when buying tree service.

A state order making your own chips and stumps regulated articles you cannot move.

Minnesota's emerald ash borer order turns a tree service's own output into regulated articles: ash logs, chips and mulch, stumps, roots and branches, plus hardwood firewood of any species. Moving them out of a quarantined county needs a compliance agreement with a certificate traveling to the final destination, or a designated receiving facility, which takes them only between the first of October and the end of April. The closed stretch is May through September, the growing season, which is when the chips are made. Penalties run to seven thousand five hundred dollars a day. The federal quarantine was lifted in 2021, so the live rules are each state's own and they differ.
