# Line clearance work

A term used when buying tree service.

Utility vegetation contracts cut near energized conductors, restricted to qualified crews.

It is the steadiest revenue in the trade and the hardest to staff, because crews need line-clearance qualification and the insurance costs more, so a book of it cannot be replaced by hiring another climber. Ask what share of revenue comes from a utility or a rural co-op, when the contract renews and who else bid it last time, and how many qualified people hold the whole thing up. The qualification is an employer determination backed by training records and not a certificate, so ask for the file and not for a card. One retirement can end the line.
