# Rim wheel servicing

A term used when buying tire shop.

The federal rule for truck and bus tire work: a restraining cage, a clip-on air line, and trained staff.

National account work is where fleet tires come from, and the federal rule for servicing truck, bus and trailer rim wheels decides who may touch them. It stops at cars, and at pickups and vans on LT tires, so a passenger-only shop is outside it. Inside it, the employer furnishes a restraining device for multi-piece wheels, and a device or barrier for single piece wheels unless the wheel is bolted to the vehicle. Inflation runs through a clip-on chuck and an in-line valve with a gauge, on enough hose to stand clear. Each device is inspected before every day's use, and one needing a weld stays out of service until its maker or a registered professional engineer certifies it. No employee services a wheel until trained, and each must show the tasks and be evaluated. Where the fleet accounts run trucks, that revenue rests on that bay, so walk to the cage.
