# Sign classification

A term used when buying sign.

Which licensing board a sign business actually answers to, which is not always its own.

The two states differ in a way that decides who regulates a buyer. California gives signs their own contractor classification covering electrical signs and their wiring, pole and wall signs, and modifications to existing ones. Florida routes them through the ELECTRICAL contracting board instead, as a specialty whose scope names the fabrication, erection, installation and maintenance of electrical and nonelectrical advertising signs with their supports. The record duty follows the contractor license and not the sign permit, and it is California's. Five years of contracts, receipts and disbursements a licensee must be able to produce to the registrar after a project, with no state rule found requiring a sign company to keep its municipal permits at all.
