# Permitting

A term used when buying sign.

The local approvals a sign needs first, which vary by town and gate when the revenue lands.

Permitting is where these projects stall, and a stalled project is money already spent on materials with nothing recognized. Ask how much of the current [backlog](https://searchspheresource.com/glossary/backlog) is waiting on approvals and how long the average one takes in the municipalities the shop works in. A company with relationships at the counter genuinely moves faster than one without, which is the kind of advantage that does not appear anywhere on a [balance sheet](https://searchspheresource.com/glossary/balance-sheet).
