# Pupil transportation contract

A term used when buying school bus contractor.

The written contract with a school board that Wisconsin requires before a vehicle carries pupils for pay.

Wisconsin puts the gate on the contract and not on a company license: the owner or lessee of every privately owned vehicle carrying pupils for compensation must be under written contract with the school board. Minnesota exempts a certified school bus carrying students from its motor carrier permits, and every license Ohio's pupil transportation rules mention is a driver's. So a new entity formed to buy the buses carries no pupils for pay until a board contracts with it, and the assignment clause decides the timetable. Read that clause before agreeing a closing date.
