# Sales per customer

A term used when buying hardware store.

The average ticket, which this trade tracks as its core productivity number.

It is the number the trade watches because footfall in a hardware store is largely fixed by the neighborhood, so growth comes from what each visit is worth. The 2025 study put it at thirty-nine dollars, an all-time high, at the same time that profit before taxes fell for a third year. Read those two together before believing a growth story: a store whose ticket is rising and whose [bottom line](https://searchspheresource.com/glossary/bottom-line) is falling has a cost problem, and buying it means buying the cost problem.
