# Reportable release

A term used when buying hardware store.

A spill at or over a chemical's federal threshold that the store must phone in immediately, not by day's end.

The dealer record covers the pesticide that leaves by sale. This covers the one that leaves on the floor. Federal law sets a reportable quantity per substance: a hundred pounds for carbaryl or malathion, one pound for chlorpyrifos or diazinon. The count is of the constituent and not the product, so a forty percent concentrate needs about two hundred and fifty pounds to cross a hundred pound line. The boundary exemption is narrower than it reads. A release exposing people only inside your own boundaries is spared the state and local emergency notice, but the immediate call to the National Response Center carries no such exemption. So the store's drainage decides what a spill owes, and no seller's package contains it. Ask for two years of incident logs, the chemical list against the table, and whether the loading area drains to the lot.
