# Walkout risk

A term used when buying hair salon.

The share of a salon's clientele that follows a departing stylist out the door.

Salon value is the client book, and the book walks on two legs. The questions that price it: do clients belong to the shop's system or to a stylist's phone, how tenured is the core staff, and do enforceable [non-solicits](https://searchspheresource.com/glossary/non-solicitation) exist where state law allows them. A salon with three-year-plus stylists, shop-owned booking and records, and diversified service revenue holds its book through a sale; one star chair with a personal following is a business that can resign.
