# Material and test certificate

A term used when buying fire protection.

In Washington the authority having jurisdiction and the building owner must keep this record five years.

Washington puts the certificate together by the competency holder, stamped, and forwarded to the authority having jurisdiction, and then requires the fire official AND THE BUILDING OWNER to retain it five years. The contractor's duty is delivery, not retention, which is worth knowing before promising a buyer a clean archive. Florida's statute assigns the underground piping certificate to the contractor who installed that piping and states no retention period at all. Florida's license does not travel either: it is not transferable, and when the certified individual leaves or dies the business has sixty days to certify somebody else before its certification expires.
