# Direct booking share

A term used when buying bed and breakfast.

The portion of reservations arriving through the inn's own site and phone.

Online travel agencies fill rooms and take a heavy commission for it, so the direct share is the margin lever an innkeeper controls: repeat guests, an email list, and a site worth booking on. Read the channel mix across the year, because a high-occupancy inn earning through commissioned channels nets meaningfully less than the same calendar booked direct, and shifting the mix is slow, real work that the seller's [goodwill](https://searchspheresource.com/glossary/goodwill) may or may not transfer.
