## The Firm

Sunstates Security was founded in 1998, works from 801 Corporate Center Drive in Raleigh, and describes itself as one of America's top ten largest security providers with a consistent 25 percent annual growth rate over the last decade. Its published growth is mostly organic, and its acquisitions are occasional rather than programmatic.

The distinction that matters in this trade is manned guarding versus technology. Several of the largest names buying in security are buying electronic systems, monitoring and integration; Sunstates bought Watch Guard 24/7, a solution-based security guarding company, which is officers on posts. A guard company owner should establish which of the two a bidder is really after, because it decides whether the contracts or the equipment carry the value.

One honest gap: its second acquisition, TorchStone Global, has a page on its own site with no date printed on it, so it is not recorded here. A dateless announcement is not evidence of when something happened, and the rule that keeps this registry usable is the same rule that leaves that deal out.
