# Prospect Partners

Chicago, Illinois. Calls its target the pre-middle market, which is genuinely small: the range where a self-funded searcher is a real rival bidder. Fund V closed at $225M.

## The Firm

Prospect Partners has been buying genuinely small companies since 1998, more than 175 investments across dozens of industries, with a stated target of $3 to $10 million of EBITDA on revenues of $15 to $100 million, a range it names the pre-middle market. Fund V closed at $225 million, small by design, because the firm's whole thesis lives below where larger funds can afford to look.

Its self-described selection filter is Entrepreneurial IQ, the ability to understand and resource entrepreneurs, and the target is a passionate management team at an inflection point, often taking institutional capital for the first time. The registry deals show the model in miniature: two managed-service providers bought into its Entech platform within four months.

This is the firm a self-funded searcher most literally competes with, because the bottom of Prospect's EBITDA range overlaps the top of a searcher's. A searcher's counter is speed and personal commitment against a firm that has run this exact play 175 times. For an interview, the load-bearing facts are the 1998 founding, the pre-middle-market coinage, the EIQ language, and the deliberately modest fund size.

Read again in September 2026: the IT platform's newest addition is a partnership whose release never says acquire, though the brand is retired and its owner joined as an employee, which is what a purchase looks like in the platform's own words. The sponsor's page reprints its platforms' releases under its own byline days later, so the platform's dateline is the day.

## Confirmed Deals

Deals traced to announcements, newest first. Firms that announce every deal show a fuller run here than firms that report acquisitions as quarterly counts, so read this as the evidence that clears the bar rather than as the firm's whole record.
