# Aquiline Capital Partners: A Search-Fund Exit Buyer

## Who They Are

Aquiline was founded in 2005 and invests across banking and credit, insurance, investment management and financial technology. It is unusually explicit about what it will do. It wants businesses with seventy-five million to two and a half billion dollars of enterprise value, plus add-ons of any size, majority or minority. Equity runs fifty to three hundred and fifty million, funded at once or over time. It publishes a venture line for businesses with a million dollars or more of recurring revenue and a credit line alongside both.

For a searcher that band is the useful part: it says plainly where a company has to be before this firm is the buyer, and it says a single firm can meet a company at three different stages. Its own announcement of the RIA in a Box purchase states the searchers' 2011 acquisition as fact, which is rare, and it installed an executive chairman at closing, so the conversation to prepare for includes who runs the company afterwards.

## The Exits They Bought

### RIA in a Box (2018)

Will Bressman and G.J. King bought RIA in a Box in 2011 during a search backed by Pacific Lake, turning a compliance business into a software platform used by around two thousand registered investment advisers. Aquiline acquired a significant majority in May 2018 and described the company as sitting at the meeting point of two growing markets.
